The evolution of log buildings
Throughout the course of their lifetime trees absorb carbon from the environment exchanging it for oxygen. By using logs as a building material we capture that carbon which would otherwise escape back into the environment if burnt or decomposed. Log cabins last for hundreds of years if maintained correctly, Western Red Cedar being perhaps the best timber to use as it offers its own natural preservative.
The construction process has a minimal energy requirement due to our revolutionary and quick process. A factory environment allows us to be extremely efficient compared with on site construction, our ability to pre-design all cuts and joints in this way saves lots of time and energy when we install on site too.
Log cabins are fantastic natural insulators regulating temperature inside the building keeping it warm in winter and cool in summer therefore reducing energy demands. We design our lodges to take full advantage of renewable and energy efficient products, underfloor heating being our heat of choice partnered with either airsource or heat source pumps. Rainwater harvesting is encouraged, as is use of solar and photovoltaic systems. We’re very excited by the evolving market in home batteries making it easier to store all of the electricity generated from panels when previously it may have been wasted via leakage as it was fed back into the national grid.
